Owing to the flooding the travel information is in flux. The A597, A5086 and A596 bridges are closed. See the
BBC Cumbria Travel Web pages for the most up to date information.
From the South, M6 Junciton 40:Follow A66 towards Cockermouth. In Cockermouth you need to turn onto A595 for about a mile then A594 to Maryport. This will get you into Maryport near the station. The A596 is the road that will get you to the other locations.
Option 2 using side roads - If A66 is closed or very busy
From the M6 Junction 41:Take the B5305 to Wigton until it crosses A595 then turn Left towards Maryport. At Mealsgate take the B5299 to Aspatria and join the A596 as above.
From the North, M6 Junction 44:Take the A7 towards Carlisle, then the A595 from Carlisle City centre. Once at Thursby take the A596 south from Maryport. You will pass through Flimby and approach a wind farm on the right and some factories on the left.
There is a small road on the left signposted to Seaton. Directly
opposite this road is a small lane running down to the tracks between the windmills.
Cross the Stile and climb the banking. Continue north along the banking to the end.
There is parking either at the allotments or behind the houses. You could also park at the bottom of this track providing you leave room for the farmer to access the fields.
The location is about a 25 minute walk along the A596 from Flimby station or a 20 minute walk from the temporary Workington North station.
Stagecoach services 30/31 operate every 15 minutes between Maryport, Workington and Whitehaven along the A596. Service 300 from Carlisle also serves this road.
Currently due to the bridge collapses in Workington following flooding, both serves operate less frequently and can only run as far as the temporary footbridge on the north bank of the river across from Workington Town Centre.
The nearest amenities are either the village shop by Flimby station, a garage between Flimby and the location or the shopping centre opposite Workington North station.
The light here is best in the morning. Whilst shots can be had in both directions the light favours southbound workings.
By crossing the railway at the foot crossing by the parking area afternoon shots can be taken from the seawall.
