Road directions
From the M11 junction 11: Take the A1309 towards Cambridge. At the first traffic lights turn right (signed Addenbrooke's Hospital) and follow the road towards the hospital (which involves turning right at a roundabout) - this is the road that goes over the bridge. Note that the route through the hospital is not a public road, and ANPR cameras are installed to catch people using it as a short cut. Accessing the bridge from the west is perfectly fine, and you can also drive as far as the roundabout on the eastern side (just take note of the signs for two of the exits off this roundabout). If coming from the east, it's probably safer to drive all the way round to avoid the chance of getting a fine.
Parking
Parking on the road itself is not a good idea (especially as it's an important route for ambulances), and the verges are cycle paths. There is some off-road space by the roundabout on the east side. However, as more housing and other developments take place, things might change - it is currently necessary to park a little distance away and walk up to the bridge.
Public transport
Best way is probably by bus or guided bus to Addenbrooke's Hospital, then walk - leave the south-western corner of the (large) site, and follow the road. Alternatively, a cycle (and foot) path runs on the east side of the line all the way from Shelford to Addenbrooke's Hospital - from Shelford station, head east on the road and take the first left.
Amenities
No toilets nearby. Nearest shops and pubs are in Trumpington and Shelford (plus some shops and food outlets in Addenbrooke's Hospital), plus plenty further away in Cambridge itself.
Accommodation
Plenty of accommodation in and around Cambridge (including several Travelodges) - although not cheap in the city.
The line runs almost north-south here. There are morning shots from the east side of the line looking north, but bushes restrict the view southwards from this side. There are afternoon shots from the west side of the line looking north, and also to a more limited degree looking south (a longer lens helps get past the bushes). Steps are useful to have in order to see over the bridge parapet, but if you have not got them you can usually go wider (or stand on tip-toes if you are tall). Looking north from the west side, the buildings of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (which includes Addenbrooke's Hospital) feature in the background - a change from the often featureless backgrounds of some other locations in this area.
