Road directions
Take the A58 in to Bury town centre, past Mill Gate shopping centre. Turn right on to Haymarket Street. Left and then right on to Silver Street carry on straight ahead till Bolton Street, turn left and you will see Bury Bolton Street railway station entrance on your left. The path for the Transport Museum is opposite the railway station entrance, you will see the gate and footpath down to the museum.
Parking
Bury Bolton Street does have it's own pay and display car park but this can get busy for special events.
Public transport
There are regular tram services from central Manchester to Bury Interchange which is a short walk away from Bury Bolton Street. There are also several bus services on offer.
Amenities
Bury Bolton Street does have toilets on the platform. There's also a pub on the station which is open to all, which serves very good food and ale. There are also several fast food outlets outside Bury Bolton Street station and in the town centre.
Photographic notes
The line runs north out of of Bury Bolton Street so light will only be good in the evenings. The location is good for photographing locomotives stabled on the shed but these will block the view of anything departing Bury Bolton Street. There isn't really a good view of trains arriving from Rawtenstall (looking north). You will be able to capture good sound effects for videos as trains depart through the tunnel from Bury Bolton Street.
