From Newmarket take the B1061 south west towards Dullingham (and Linton). Just over a mile after the level crossing park in a layby on the right hand side of the road and follow the signed footpath towards the railway.

There are probably some buses between Newmarket and Dullingham which use the B1061, but this information is not currently known.

Walk from Dullingham railway station - about 2 miles.
Walk south east along the road towards the village, and take the first left in the village (after about 0.5 miles). This road leads to the B1061; turn left. and after nearly a mile you reach the layby mentioned in the road directions - take the footpath on the left up to the railway line.

Walk from Newmarket railway station - about 2 miles.
Turn left out of the station, right at the T junction by the railway bridge, and left at the next junction with the B1061. After 1.5 miles (1 mile after the level crossing) is the layby; take the footpath on the right up to the railway line.

The nearest shops and food will be in Newmarket, 2 miles away.

Newmarket will have some hotels and Bed and Breakfasts, and Cambridge is only a few miles away.

The line runs almost North to South at this point. Stand on the bank inside the gate on the south east side of the foot crossing. A set of steps may be useful to get a clear view over some of the bushes for eastbound trains.
The light is right for eastbound trains (eg the diverted Tilbury-Ipswich) first thing in the morning, until about 09.00 (so only in the summer) if you want the sun on the nose. For westbound trains, the light is right until around midday.
Later in the afternoon the light moves round onto the other side of the crossing, and a shot is possible of westbound trains, although the back of long trains will be lost behind some bushes.
