Caerphilly is on the A468 between Newport and Pontypridd, which connects with the A470 from Cardiff a few miles west of the town. The station and town itself are reached by the B4600, the station is at the south end of the high street.
As the station is close to the town centre Car Parking is available but can be busy.
There is a frequent train service from Cardiff with one or two trains per hour continuing to Bargoed and Rhymney. The Bus Station adjoins the station.
There are public toilets outside the station (charge payable), also several pubs and a wide range of shops.
Light is best in the morning for trains heading south in the station. In the afternoon it is possible to take pictures of trains approaching from Cardiff from the footbridge, though a zoom lens is preferable.
