Gobowen is located just off the A5 north of Shrewsbury on the B5069, which crosses the railway at the station.
There is a station car park.
Besides the train service, there are buses to both Wrexham and Shrewsbury, also 2/3 buses per hour to nearby Oswestry.
There are two pubs by the station, one on each side of the line. There is also a convenience store by the roundabout to the east.
The station is well worth photographing due to its well preserved buildings and canopies. There is a signal box controlling the level crossing and a couple of lower-quadrant semaphore signals to the north. The sun is usually best for southbound trains. There is a footbridge a short distance to the north of the station. To reach this, head north on the east side of the line down a lane behind the houses and look out for the footpath between two gardens.
