Road directions
From the M6, Junction 27: Turn west onto the A5209 towards Parbold before immediately turning right onto the B5250 towards Eccleston. Take the next right again onto Boundary Lane, which crosses the M6 and then turns sharp left parallel to it, then right again. Follow this road until its end. Turn left onto the A49 and continue for about a mile. Just after a right hand bend, turn right into Coppull Moor Lane. This road runs fairly straight until it crosses the Main Line. Turn left by the Waggon and Horses pub. Continue along here until you come to a large Caravan showroom on the left.
Parking
Park your car opposite the showroom and the footpath leads along the southern side of this to the footbridge.
Public transport
Arriva service 362 operates every 15 minutes between Wigan and Chorley and passes through Coppull village. Alight near to the railway. If you alight on the eastern side of the line, take Lancaster Street to the south, turning right at the end onto Chapel Lane until you reach the Caravan showroom, the footpath being immediately after on the right. If you alight on the western side of the line in the village, head south along South Road into the estate and keep to the roads as close to the line as possible. You will see the footbridge on the left beyond a playground.
Amenities
There are no toilets in the area. There are shops in Coppull Village.
The light is best here in an afternoon for south-bound trains. The catenary can get in the way slightly, but due to there only being two tracks now, it is easier to limit this. Shots looking south are possible from the bridge and from the eastern side of the line over the fence, though these are invariably into the sun.
