Road directions
From the A386 Plymouth - Saltash main road, come off at the Ford roundabout, just north of Central Park. If you go under the railway viaduct then take two left turns, this road will take you to the bridge through the 'Home Zone'
Parking
There is plenty of parking around the station. There also offset parking around the pub and nearby streets, so it should be possible to have your car in sight all the time.
Public transport
A bus service also operates from the B3396 outside nearby Devonport station. Dockyard has a fairly erratic train service. Using a street atlas or streetmap.co.uk printout it is possible to walk from Plymouth station in around 40min.
Amenities
There is a pub by the bridge. The nearest shop is a few streets away on the B3396 near Devonport Station.
Accommodation
There are plenty of hotels / Bed and Breakfasts in Plymouth to suit all budgets. This website lists some.
Both from the down platform and bridge, you need an up train (towards Plymouth) in the afternoon, as the line is roughly north - south here. A nice shot of trains crossing the viaduct can be done from just to one side of the bridge - steps advantageous. There is not much by way of a down shot on offer here. It is not particularly noisy place, but there are always people about.
For a bit of variety, the next bridge towards Plymouth (Haddington Road) offers another up shot in the afternoon, but you will lose this to shadow much earlier than Dockyard, which holds light very well into the evening. This is a particularly useful shot for returning Eden Project Charters and evening freight such as the Moorswater - Earles Cement on Tue / Thur. There are few others at this angle to the sun between Penzance and Newton Abbot.
