From the A9 at Pitlochry, take the B8019 west, following the signposts for Rannoch. When the road ends you are at Rannoch Station.
The road to Rannoch is not a fast road, expect the journey from the A9 to take about an hour.
There is a foot path leading, north, from the station across the moor to the bridge and embankments. Follow this to the location.
Parking is available at the station.
You can get the train up... but you will not have time to get to the location to photograph it if you've come up from the south.
There is a cafe at Rannoch Station.
The
Moor of Rannoch Hotel is closest. Further field there are Bed and Breakfasts and hotels in Kinlochrannoch, Tummel Bridge and Pitlochry.
This shot is best in the mornings for northbound trains if the sun is out. If there is no sun then you can get northbound shots of trains crossing the viaduct all day.
Later in the day it is possible to get southbound shots of trains crossing the moor from the hillside above the viaduct.
