Road directions
You need to get to Windsor Riverside Station; if it is on your left, go past the station and left at a mini roundabout signed for parking. If you are coming from Datchet, turn right at the mini roundabout before Riverside Station. You will turn in to a narrow road leading to a long stay car park which gets very busy. Follow the road right to the end, and past the sports facilities, where there is further parking. Park and walk, keeping the railway to your left until you reach the river, and the railway bridge.
Parking
Car parking is likely to be safe as it is usually busy with tourists or shoppers.
Public transport
By rail to Windsor Central or Riverside Station. Once at Riverside station, walk past the station, follow directions above. Probably about 25 minute walk from Central, and 15 minutes from Riverside. First operate most buses in the area, there are good links from Slough and Maidenhead.
Amenities
There are public toilets near the sports facilities. Plenty of facilities in Windsor itself, but watch out for royal corgis biting at your ankles and hoping for some food.
Accommodation
There is a good selection of hotels in Windsor, cheaper hotels in Slough and airport hotels at Heathrow.
It was very dull when I visited, but I think light would be best in the morning - the line crosses The Thames roughly NE to SW. In the afternoon I think that the sun would be the wrong side. I got as close to the river as I could to get a side on view, but for filming you may not need to get so close to the river bank. Winter leaf fall will allow you to see the train through tree branches but Summer might not be any good because leaves may be obscure the train too much.
