Road directions
From Hitchin, take the A602 southwards towards the A1(M). Once out of the town, take a left turning into a minor road signposted 'Little Wymondley', then about 1/4 mile on, turn left at a roundabout (signposted 'Great Wymondley'). The bridge is about 1/4 mile further along. From the A1(M) Junction 8, take the minor road at the junction signposted 'Little Wymondley'; drive through the village to the roundabout mentioned above and turn right.
Parking
Space for about 2 cars by the side of the road, close to the bridge. No problems leaving the car.
Public transport
Centrebus route 80 (Stevenage station - Hitchin) runs hourly Mondays - Saturdays until about 1800; for times etc go to Intalink. Frequent trains run to both Stevange and Hitchin stations. In addition, bus 101 runs Stevenage - Hitchin via Little Wymondley every half-hour during the day and two-hourly evenings and Sundays; alight at the (only) stop in the village and it is then a 1/2 mile walk, as per the road directions.
Amenities
None. There are pubs in Great Wymondley and Little Wymondley (all of which do food and real ale), both about 1/2 mile away, but no shops. Nearest shops are in Hitchin and Letchworth.
Accommodation
Some hotel accommodation is available in Hitchin, Letchworth and Stevenage.
The line runs NW-SE, so up trains can be photographed from the bridge for much of the day, although when the sun is on the east side of the line (until about 1030-1100), shots of trains on the up slow are very head-on. Shadows can make photos of trains on the down slow tricky once the sun is on the west side of the line. Trains become backlit after about 1600-1700. In addition, there is a footpath on the down side of the line south of the bridge, that allows some shots of trains on the up lines passing under the bridge, through gaps in the vegetation. Electrification structures do not generally intrude. A more distant shot can be obtained by walking towards the roundabout and using a zoom lens across fields. Little background noise apart from occasional road vehicles, so videoing should not be a problem apart from wind noise.
