Road directions
From the Southampton direction: Leave the M27and junction 27 and join the A334 heading east towards Botley and Wickham. Pass through Botley village, and stay on the A334 towards Curdridge taking the right fork after the railway bridge. Then take the next right turn and you will reach the bridge.
From the Portsmouth direction: Leave the M27 at Junction 9 and turn onto the A3051 to Botley, at the junciton with the A334 turn right and stay on the A334 towards Curdridge taking the right fork after the railway bridge. Then take the next right turn and you will reach the bridge.
From the Meon Valley/Bishops's Waltham direction: Join the A334 towards Botley/Southampton, and in the Kitnocks village take a left turn to reach the location.
Care should be taken in Outlands Lane as it has numerous accesses with restricted view (if coming out of the driveways) and you may meet the postman in his van coming out!
Parking
You can park your car just off the side of the road on the north side of the bridge, do not park it on the south side due to the blind bend.
Public transport
Botley station is served by an hourly train (October 2006) from Waterloo/Portsmouth, arriving at xx27 from Portsmouth and xx42 from Waterloo. Exit the station onto the footbridge, at the station exit cross the main road and turn right. Almost immediately take the footpath to the left (the footpath sign is hiding behind the bus stop sign). Follow this path along behind the houses, cross the stream and walk up the hill, the path comes out right by the bridge.
Amenities
None, although there is a small shop in Curdridge up the road, and in Botley village.
The bridge is located where the line goes down from double to single track towards Fareham. To the north the line is fairly open and you can see the station. To the south the line rounds a left hand curve and is in a fairly deep cutting with some large trees on the south side of the line. The single track is on the northbound alignment so you can get a good wide shot on a cloudy day. The line runs NW/SE at this point so northbound trains will be coming out of sun in the morning. This shot is only suitable for cloudy days, unless you like glint/shadow side shots.
