New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Situated on the West Coast Main Line in rural Staffordshire the nearest town is Stone, although the nearest station is actually Norton Bridge. It is the main route between Stafford and Crewe.
Railway type and traffic
Pendolinos form the majority of traffic on this stretch but there is also regular Voyager workings as well as local traffic usually formed of 170 Turbostars.
There is plenty of freight workings too as well as maintenance traffic. In other words the usual variety found on the WCML.
Environment
This is a rural location on a very quiet country lane. There is a public footpath that runs alongside the railway which offers slightly alternative views but this can get overgrown in summer months. The fields through which the footpath goes includes both cattle and crops (depending on how far along you wish to travel).
Road directions
Mill Meece is situated on the A519 between Eccleshall and Stoke on Trent.

From the North, Stoke, you will see a large brick chimney dominating the horizon indicating you are close by. Once in the village of Millmeece take a left hand turn just before the railway bridge (it is actually straight ahead as the main road turns a sharp right over the bridge).
After about a 1/4 mile take a right hand turn which looks like a glorified farmers track. The railway bridge is ahead of you and there is plenty of parking on the other side of the bridge for several vehicles alongside the wide verge.

From the South, Eccleshall, enter the village of Millmeece taking the right hand turn immediately after the railway bridge. Then follow as above.

Parking
There is ample parking for several vehicles on the wide verge at the west side of the bridge. I have parked their for several hours without being disturbed by any passing traffic! But the road is used by locals and farmers.

Amenities
There is a local pub in the village - right next to the railway line!

Photographic notes
The road bridge provides the best photographing opportunities for northbound traffic. Southbound traffic is more challenging due to overhead catenary. However, there is a public footpath that runs alongside the railway that offers some different angles and opportunities.
