Cockwood is on the A379 south of Exeter and the M5, which leads to Dawlish. It is on the left about a mile after passing through Starcross.
There is a small lay-by just as the road turns right away from the railway and river past the harbour.
Starcross station is about 15 minute walk away and Stagecoach services 85/85A run every 15 minutes between Exeter, Dawlish and Newton Abbot/Torquay and cross the harbour.
There are no toilets or shops in the area though there are two pubs overlooking the harbour.
