The A379 leads from Exeter and the end of the M5 to Dawlish. After passing through the town the road climbs the cliffs. After about a mile there is a road on the right signposted towards a small hospital and opposite this there is a public footpath heading down some wooden stairs and along the edge of a field towards the sea. This footpath crosses a small footbridge over a stream and just after this you can push through some bushes to overlook the railway.
There are places to park just off the main road near the top of the footpath.
Dawlish station is about a 30 minute walk. Stagecoach services 85/85A operate every 15 minutes along the main road between Exeter, Dawlish, Teignmouth and alternately Newton Abbot/Paignton.
There are plenty of Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts in Dawlish and Teignmouth, though these do get busy in summer.
The light is best here from just after dinner until early afternoon. Pictures can only be taken of westbound trains as they emerge from the tunnel.
