Road directions
Sunderland station is located on a pedestrianised street, with limited road access at the south end. If you choose to drive hear, follow signs for the bridges shopping centre, and park your car there. As with all large cities it is best to park out of town, and get the metro or rail into here.
Parking
Best to park your car outside the city, and use bus, metro, or rail to reach this location. Parking is available in the bridges shopping centre car park, but it is not free. Signs will guide you to this location. From the car parks, follow the bridges centre through, looking for signs to Sunderland station. The entrances are across the road.
Stadium of light metro station has a car park, but try and avoid it on Stadium of light match days!
IMPORTANT: Some bus services will call in at Park Lane bus station. If they do, ask for a metro transfare to Sunderland. Take the metro from Park Lane to Sunderland.
Amenities
The station is located in Sunderland city centre, so all amenities are close at hand. However, there is a Burger King next to the station, which is open late.
Accommodation
Plenty of accommodation throughout Tyne and wear. Try Travel lodge for cheap accommodation.
Sunderland station is an underground station, with stairs and lifts connecting the platforms below with the concourses above. Do not use flash photography. In addition, bear in mid that trains come through the station slowly, so, barring crowds, you can have plenty of time to get a good shot.
There is some daylight visible at the southern end of the station, but this is away from the platforms.
