Road directions
From the North, leave the A1 at the first turning in Sandy, turn left at the first and second roundabouts, turn right at the third along Sunderland Way.
From the South (on the A1) after the roundabout with the A603 take the next exit into Georgetown Road and follow the road under the A1 to the roundabout, turn right at the roundabout and then left at the next into Sunderland Road.
Follow Sunderland road along until the next roundabout at the end of the estate - go straight ahead into Beamish Close and the footbridge is directly ahead of you.
Parking
You can park on the grass verge near to the bridge, but beware of lorries accessing the factory units.
Public transport
The footbridge is a 1¼ mile walk from Sandy station following the public footpath which generally follows the railway line.
Amenities
There are no amenities in the local vicinity. There are Pubs, shops ect available in Sandy town centre and a Budgens fairly well tucked away in the housing estate between the location
and the A1.
The line runs almost due North-South. Photographs are possible from both sides, so you can 'cross the footbridge' when the sun crosses the line. The overhead catenary masts can make photography a little awkward, especially from the eastern (morning) side of the line. The better shot is from the west (afternoon) side, especially the southbound shot which can be photographed from the bridge within the overhead masts. A lens with a focal length from 50mm upwards is needed to obtain the best results. The photos below were taken with a 70-200 (112-320 digital) zoom on digital Video would be good except there may be noise from the adjacent industrial estate - but this is all quite on weekends!
