Road directions
From A505, take turning signposted 'Litlington'. If coming from the west, the turning on the left is about two miles after the turning for Ashwell and Morden station. If coming from the east, the turning is just after the last roundabout on the Royston bypass. The crossing is about 100 yards along the minor road.
Parking
Lay-by by the side of the road - parking for two or three cars. Rural and sparsely-populated, so safe to leave the car.
Public transport
About a two mile walk from Royston station. Few, if any, buses on this section of road.
Amenities
There is a Little Chef just up the road towards Royston. Otherwise there are petrol stations on the A505, otherwise, there is a Tesco in Royston just off the A505 (follow signs for the station).
Accommodation
May be some Bed and Breakfasts in the area, otherwise nearest hotels are in Cambridge, Letchworth or Hitchin. There is also a motel on the Baldock service area (Junction 10 of the A1(M)) about 8 miles west.
This location is best for up (east bound) trains as electrification equipment just west of the crossing does get in the way, but acceptable photos of down (west bound) trains can be had, although they do become backlit after about 1400. Sun is on the front of up trains from about 1100; after about 1630, the sun moves from the south to the north side of the line. Quite reasonable scope for photos on both sides of the line. Traffic noise from the A505 means that it\'s probably not much good for video. The AHB crossing lights and bells give you warning of an approaching train.
There is also a bridge about 1/4 mile east carrying the A505 over the line, which allows good views of up trains but not so good for down.
