Head north towards Rhymney up the main Rhymney Valley road. Just before you get into the built up area of Pontlottyn (the town just south of Rhymney) turn onto a farm track and you can park your car here. Walk down the track/dirt road and you come to the location.
Park just off the road where the farm track starts.
Hourly train service from Cardiff to Pontlottyn and the location is under a mile from the station.
There is a Fish and Chip shop in Pontlottyn.
There are lots of hotels in Cardiff.
The line is pretty much north south at this location so the spot is very much an afternoon photo-spot. Sun on the front of trains coming down the valley until about 4pm and will be on the train of trains coming up after about 5pm (in time for the 37 which passes just before 6pm but is often late). You can hear the 37s 'thrashing' up the valley about a minute before they arrive (depending on the driver!)
