Come off the M74 at junction 6 and follow the signs into Motherwell. Just before you cross the railway bridge turn left into High Road and park here. At either end of this road are bridges to get you to the station entrance.
It is possible to park in the nearby residential streets.
Two or three trains an hour from Glasgow Central, one train every two hours from Edinburgh. Virgin WC and XC services usually stop here.

The best location is the north end of platforms 2 and 3 as this allows you to watch comings and goings from both the Hamilton Circle and the WCML. The lines diverge just at the end of these platforms. The Hamilton Circle is nearly rarely anything other than units, so if you're into loco-hauled then platform 2 is best. The north end of the platform also means that you can photograph the loco end of the Intercity push-pull services. Also of note is that the main line platforms are on a curve with quite a high degree of cant (Fig 3)
The south end of platforms 1 and 2 isn't recommended as it's in a cutting between two bridges and it is quite dark.
