Road directions
From the M1, Junction 47:
Take the eastbound ramp towards A642 and take the first exit onto the B1217. Follow this road to Towton Village and then turn right onto the A162. Follow this road south to Barkston Ash and follow the signs, turning left towards Church Fenton.
The Station is on the left.
Parking
There is a small (15 space) car park opposite the station, which is free to use.
There is also a small lay-by outside the station building; this is on the crest of a road bridge over the lie, and as such can be dangerous when there is oncoming traffic travelling at speed.
Public transport
Alternate trains on the Northern Rail York - Blackpool North service call here; there is also the twice-daily York - Sheffield local service. A train roughly every 2 hours, more at peak times.
There are two bus routes stopping at or near to this station; the Tadcaster-Pontefract routes as operated by Arriva.
Amenities
There are no toilets on the station. A pub, The Junction, is nearby at the end of Station Road. You can see this pub from the station footbridge. There is also an Indian Restaurant in the old station building on the road bridge above the station.
Accommodation
The nearest accommodation is in the town of Sherburn-in-Elmet, a few miles away.

Photographic notes
The platforms here are much longer than any train which calls at the station, so there is more than enough room for setting up tripods. The centre island platform is very wide, and as such, the tracks separate on approach to the station. The northern end of the platforms offer views as far as the eye can see, although there are some signals that can obscure the view. To the south, the station footbridge, and a road bridge, cross all tracks. As the lines run North-South, sunlight rarely causes a problem here.
