Road directions
The station is on the B6319 (signposted Chollerford) off the A69 Newcastle - Carlisle road in Haydon Bridge village; turn right if coming from Newcastle and left from Carlisle.
Parking
Free car parking at the station.
Public transport
The station is served by trains on the Newcastle - Carlisle line but there are long gaps in the service at this station; otherwise bus 685 (jointly operated by Arriva and Stagecoach) runs hourly between the two cities and stops in the village, a few minutes' walk from the station.
Amenities
None at the station but there are some facilities and a pub, not visited, in the village.
Accommodation
This is Hadrian's Wall country and there are lots of small hotels and Bed and Breakfasts in the area, catering mainly for walkers. The local tourist board will be able to help. There are also hotels in Hexham, otherwise it is Newcastle or Carlisle.
The line runs north-east to south west at this point, so shots are possible from the down platform until about 1500, although up trains can be very backlit by then. Shots are also possible of down trains from the up platform, but the signal box obscures views of up trains. There is lots of scope for using zoom lenses. The area is very quiet, so videoing should be no problem and there is plenty of warning of approaching trains as the level crossing gates will close. Note that there is no footbridge at this station, so be careful not to get trapped the wrong side of the crossing.
