New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
The line is situated in the Moorlands in Staffordshire, the line covers 8 miles of steeply graded railway line from Leekbrook Junction to Cauldon Lowe where the line ends.
This location [insert location specific information].
Railway type and traffic
The trains running on the line are mixed between diesel (Loco and the resident DMU) and steam haulage. The Churnet Valley Railway operates for most of the year, but only on special days do services head to Cauldon Lowe. Services up to Cauldon Lowe will be top and tailed as there is no run round facility.
The Moorland City Railway was specifically set up to purchase, renovate, and return commercial rail freight to the Stoke on Trent to Cauldon Lowe rail route. Through its close association with the Churnet Valley Railway it was clear that a limited amount of heritage services would be able to operate over the MCR network in the fullness of time. Freight traffic will return in years to come.
Environment
The Moorlands area on the Moorlands and City Railways line is a peaceful area to be with few farms placed near the railway line, there are many steep hills and public foot paths along with the many railway bridges around 30 in total. There is no problem with crime etc and not many walkers unless you are a railway enthusiast. Shots near or on the line are very good all year round, but taking an extra clothing is advised in Autumn and Winter.
