Location notes
A very good footbridge just to the south of York Station on the East Coast Main Line.
Railway type and traffic
A variety of passenger and freight services pass through this location. Usually East Coast Express, Grand Central, Arriva Cross Country, First Transpennine Express, Northern and freight.
There is also a view down onto anything which is in Holgate Sidings.
Environment
Urban area, however the footbridge has always been quiet on my visits there. Just the locals walking from one side of the line to the other.
Road directions
The bridge links Love Lane and Barbara Grove. Leave York station and turn right, when you get to Micklegate traffic lights turn right and keep going until you reach a junction with Holgate Road, take Holgate Road and cross over Holgate Bridge (this one is too high for you to really see anything unfortunately) and then take a left into Hamilton Drive East and another left onto Barbara Grove.

Holgate, York map co-ordinates
Parking
You can park on Love Lane or Barbara Grove but there may be restrictions.
Public transport
There are busses between the station and the location and also it is also a reasonable length walk from the station.
Amenities
Plenty in York city center.

Photographic notes
Very good for photos in both directions but the OHLE will require some skilful photography! Videography should be fine as there is very little pedestrian traffic on the bridge.
