The station serves a small village between New Mills and Chapel-en-le-Frith. Although the line runs generally in a north - south direction, at the station, the single island platform is aligned roughly in an east - west direction.
Railway type and traffic
Regular passenger services are all worked by dmus, with Trans Pennine Class 185 or 158, and Central Trains Class 170 or 158, each running hourly on weekdays. In addition, there is a two hourly (hourly on Saturdays) local service, usually worked by Class 142 or 150, with an occasional Class 156.
There are a variety of freight trains, mainly consisting of stone trains from Peak Forest, Tunstead & Dowlow and cement trains from Earles Sidings.
The station is near the centre of the village, with some housing on either side of the line.
Access is by the B6062 from Whaley Bridge (on the A6), which connects to the A624 from Glossop, about midway between Chinley and Chapel-en-le-Frith. The B6062 is a 'straight on' turn off the A624 just after you go under two railway bridges. This will lead you to Station Road. There is a car park in Station Road, about 50 yards from the station.

Railway Gen Group
There is a single island platform with the line running roughly in an east - west direction through the station.
The lighting favours photography of southbound trains from the north end of the platform. For much of the day, the position of the sun makes it difficult for photography of northbound trains.
