Road directions
From the M1, junction 9: Head west off the motorway, in the opposite direction to Harpenden, and at the A5 roundabout take the exit towards Kinsbourne Green. Follow this road, passing back under the motorway and towards Harpenden. You will eventually drop down onto the Luton road at a mini roundabout where you will need to turn right. You will pass 'The Green' bistro just after this roundabout. After about a mile and a half you will pass a filling station and vehicle showroom on your right and then just as you reach the village shopping area you will come to another mini roundabout where you will turn left up 'Sun Lane'. Continue up 'Sun Lane' and immediately after passing over the railway turn right onto 'Carlton Road' and head south to the footbridge which will be on the right.
Parking
Due to the proximity of the location to the local Hospital weekday parking is limited and well monitored. You can park for up to 1 hour in Stewart Road which is opposite the bridge.
Public transport
Leave the station on the northbound (west) side of the line, Head onto Station Approach toward Station Road. Turn right onto Station Road and pass under the railway line, then turn left onto Carlton Road. Continue up Carlton road and the footbridge is on the left.
Amenities
Harpenden has plenty of shops. There is a Sainsburys, Boots, and plenty of local business Sandwich shops.
Accommodation
St. Albans is nearby with Travel lodges and hotels.
Photographic notes
The bridge is not very high and excellent views can be had of trains coming from the south. To the north there is a right hand bend. Naturally if shooting from above you will be looking through the OLE.
