Road directions
Travelling from Dorchester, take the second turning on the left for Holywell and Evershot just before the A37 crosses the railway. The turning for Holywell is located at the bottom of a steep hill on the A37.
If travelling from Yeovil, the turning will be on the right immediately after crossing over the railway.
Parking
You can park next to the railway bridge, but make sure you park as far as you can to the bank, so large farm vehicles can pass.
Public transport
A bus service operates from the village.
Amenities
There is no shops or pubs in the village, but in the surrounding villages between Dorchester and Yeovil, there are a number of shops and pubs.
Accommodation
In the surrounding villages and towns, there are many places to stay, the nearest one being the George Albert Hotel on the A37, around a mile south.
Railway Gen Group
Wiltshire and Avon Gen
Photographic notes
The light is good anytime of the day really, I have never really had a problem with light when I have photographed here. The only direction I would say to photograph is of southbound trains as northbound trains can't really be photographed as there are trees immediately south of the bridge. Trains can be photographed either side of the line so you have a few options.
Steam Locomotives are working hard as they enter and leave the tunnel, so this is a good place to video and photograph trains. The best shot is of southbound trains.
As the A37 is close by, be aware that there maybe noise from the road when videoing.
