Road directions
From the M5 Junction 18
Straight across the first roundabout. Turn right at the second roundabout along the A403 St Andrews Way. Take the first left soon after. There are signs for the station at the junction, but they are obscured slightly and could easily be missed. Approx time from motorway: 5 minutes.
Parking
There is a station car park and lots of roadside parking. The car will be safe and is always within view from the station.
Public transport
On weekdays and Saturdays a roughly two hourly service serves the station to and from Bristol and Severn Beach, the station is a request stop, so you will need to inform the guard beforehand if you wish to alight, and give a clear hand signal to the driver as the train approaches if you wish to board.
Amenities
No toilets at the station. During weekday daytime there is usually a caravan selling hot food. Plenty of local shopping and facilities in Avonmouth proper, including some very nice pubs. No more than a few minutes away by car.
Light is best in the afternoon for activities in the yard, although shadows from close vegetation and platform furniture can infringe on some shots of passenger trains as the sun gets lower. The distinctive silo provides a great industrial backdrop to shots looking south. By the areas very nature there is a lot of industrial noise in the background, and this will be noticeable in videos. The area is floodlit facilitating night time photography. Most activities can be photographed from the station footbridge which spans all tracks.
