Photographic notes
At the station, best for eastbound trains from the road over bridge, the sun is OK until the late morning.
Nearby locations include:
Thatto Heath cutting - walk southwards from the station to the traffic lights, turn right into Scholes Lane, and after about 0.4 miles, turn left into a minor road with a bridge over the cutting. Allow about 10 minutes. Except for a brief period in late afternoon, the rock cutting is mostly in shade, but with careful exposure control, photos can be obtained with a telephoto lens at most times of the day.
Elm Road bridge - from the station, cross the road into Thatto Heath Park, and follow the path parallel to the railway until you leave the park, and turn right onto Elm Road bridge. Allow about 5 minutes. The line here is in a grass-lined cutting, and may be shaded for most of the day in winter.
