Follow the signs for Beauly and Fort William out of Inverness. These will guide you on to the A862. The location is just after left turn. Park you car and follow the foot path across the Lock gates to the swing bridge.
Any train crossing the bridge is subject to a permanent speed restriction of about 5mph so nothing will be speeding past, that said the trains will accelerate once they have cleared the bridge and take the curve into Inverness. The sun should be bang on the nose during summer mornings, becoming back lit after about lunchtime. A pair of steps is helpful to provide some elevation at the location.
