The main A65 Skipton to Kendal trunk road passes the location about 3 miles south of Settle. After passing from the south through Long Preston village the road runs next to the railway and after passing the signal box there is a small farm track on the left leading to a bridge.
Formerly opposite the farm track is a driveway leading to a house. There is room for one car to park by the gate.
Sadly due to a dispute with the local landowner this parking place is no longer available. There is a layby opposite the enterance to the signal box car park about 5 minutes walk away. But be wary as the A65 is a fast and busy road.
The nearest railway stations are Long Preston and Giggleswick both of which would be a 30-40 minute walk. There is a bus service provided by Pennine between Skipton and Settle which passes along the road at least hourly.
The light is best here in the early afternoon for trains heading from Carlisle/Carnforth though morning shots are also possible particularly off the Carnforth branch. On a duller day or late afternoon shots can be taken of trains heading north with the signal box and junction in view.
