Road directions
With the Station next to the A444, the main Coventry - Burton On Trent road, getting to the Station is quite easy, although the road layout was altered a few years ago, to form a one-way system, the Station is clearly signposted on the approach to Nuneatons ring road - Roanne Ringway.
Parking
Either use the main station car park at £6 ( but get there early as its usually full for 08:00) or park over at the Dunelm carpark which is £4.50 for over 4 hrs. This car park fills very quickly. Asda - advised not to park here as attendants regulary patrol the car park. Cars have been clamped!
Public transport
Nuneaton is served by an hourly Virgin Trains service to and from London and Liverpool, Central Trains provide 2 trains an hour, the Birmingham - Lincoln Central services and Birmingham - Stansted Airport services.
If you come by bus, the bus station is located on the opposite of ASDA, and as such is less than a 5 minute walk. In fact both the Bus and Train Stations can be seen from ASDA. Stagecoach provide the main bus services from Coventry and Leicester and serve mainly local towns such as Atherstone, Bedworth and Hinckley with a very frequent service. Arriva also operate the 158 route from Leicester.
Amenities
Toilets are located on Platform 2, which is also adapted for disabled people, there is also an additional disabled toilet on Platform 7, all of which are connected by lifts and footbridge. Alternatively, ASDA provide a good selection of food and drink in their customer canteen, all of which is very reasonably priced.
In general, photography is possible throughout the whole day, and if you are in the right position, the canopies can help block out flares, this is Trial and Error though. As for videoing, again the canopies help but overall should make very pleasant videos. Unfortunately, the Fire Station and Ambulance Station are nearby and the sirens can be picked up very clearly as they go out on their next call. the Northern end of Platform 2/3 should make a nice location, as you can also see trains as they cross the flyover on the approach to Platform 6 and 7.
For northbound freight the best place is at the north end of platform 1. Any freight coming from Birmingham now uses the flyover apart from the Bedworth tanks. Freightliners and intermodals from Birmingham and Hams Hall use the flyover and pass platform 7 before using a new junction to gain acess to the WCML for the south. Some great shots can be had from the end of platform 7 as the freights come over the flyover. Any southbound freight from the north will usually use platform 5. Photography from this platform is almost useless as there is no clear shot at the north end. The southern end allows clear photos of freight coming off the Leicester line.
