From the A38 / A50 junction (This is the junction for Toyota) follow the B5005 Etwall Road towards Willington. On arrival in Willington cross the canal bridge then turn left by the Green Man public house. Continue past the Rising Sun public house and immediately turn left into a car park just before the bridge under the railway line. This car park is indicated as the 'station' car park. Park here and head back down the road to Willington Railway Station and follow the public transport directions from here.
Park at Willington station car park for free parking.
Turn left outside the station and cross the road. Follow 'The Castle Way' road past a general store and estate agent and follow this road until the first left hand turning which is Ivy Close. Follow Ivy close until you reach an underpass on the left, which goes under the railway line. Go under here and follow the footpath along the side of the railway line until you reach the footbridge. Walking time about 15 to 20 minutes. After wet weather the footpath, which is bordered by lots of plants and bushes, would be difficult to negotiate without getting wet.
Nothing in the immediate area but Willington has a local shop, chip shop and a couple of very good pubs.
This location offers a couple of different shots with southbound shots from either side of the bridge being favourites. The location is particularly quiet apart from typical countryside noises. The sides of the bridge are quite high and steps would be required to see over them. But the stair ends are much lower and can be leant on so there are no height issues there. Those ares are large enough to accommodate three or four photographers side by side.
