From the A50 take the A514 in the direction of Swarkestone (or follow signs to Calke Abbey). Approx ¾ mile along the road curves to the left but with a right hand turn that appears to go straight on – take this turning. Approximately 1 mile along there is a right hand turning sign posted Sinfin, take this turning. After crossing the railway line there is a tight left hand turn and approx ½ mile along this road on the left is the bridge across the canal.
There is enough car parking space for two, possibly three, cars adjacent to the canal bridge. Otherwise you will have to park on the roadside verges and walk back to the location.
Barrow upon Trent is very poorly served by Public transport with only 2 or 3 buses per day.
Arriva service 61 operates hourly from Derby to Swarkestone (Crewe and Harpur Pub) from where it would be a 20-25 minute walk to the location.
The
Ragley Boat Stop public house is two minutes away, to the east, located by the canal on Sinfin Lane. Stenson Lock Coffee Shop is located about a mile along the canal tow path to the west of the location.
This location offers excellent views in both directions with the light slightly favouring the view East.
For video the location is fairly quiet with the usual sounds of the countryside. There is a slight noise from the adjacent road and the occasional narrow boat but nothing to make videoing a problem.
