From the town of Bromsgrove take the B4184 towards Finstall - half a mile or so after crossing the railway you will come to Finstall. A minor road goes to the left as the main road bears right - follow this road, and at the end turn right then immediately turn left into Pikes Pool Lane. This will take you under the bypass. A couple of hundred yards further on the road bears left under a railway bridge - a gate will be on the outside of the bend - the location is beyond this gate (there is a public footpath through the field) in the far corner of the field.
There is an hourly trains service to Bromsgrove from Birmingham New Street.
Firstbus service 143 operates hourly between Birmingham, Bromsgrove and Redditch and operates along the B4184 in Finstall. The location is about a 25 minute walk from Bromsgrove station.
o amenities in the location, but Bromsgrove has all the facilities you would expect.
For morning to early afternoon the sun is behind you so you should get reasonable shots in both directions, although the sun starts to move around to the South, which will affect shots of Northbound (uphill) trains after 12 - 13:00.
Being the Lickey incline trains will be going reasonable slowly (if going uphill!) and should be making a fair amount of noise.
The recent (2017) addition of Overhead line mast now makes some angles at the location tighter so if you have not been to the location since electrification allow yourself some extra time to reacclimatize.
