Road directions
From the Sheffield area, take the A6187. In Hathersage village, fork right up a hill (Jagger's Lane), which continues into Hill Foot. From the Manchester area, use the A57 via Glossop to Ladybower Reservoir, then the A6013 to Bamford. Soon after passing Bamford station, turn left onto the A6187. After about ¾ mile, turn left into Hill Foot. The bridge is on a bend at the top of a short hill.
Parking
Space for several cars on the road near the bridge, but park well clear of the bends in the road.
Public transport
A Sheffield - Castleton bus service (272), currently hourly (weekday daytime), runs along the A6187 past the junction with Hill Foot.
By rail to Bamford or Hathersage stations, then walk. From Bamford, follow the road directions above (about 20 minutes). From Hathersage, turn left into Station Approach, then turn right into Station Road. On reaching Hathersage village centre, turn left onto the A6187 and then follow the road directions as above (Not tested, but probably also about 20 minutes).
Amenities
None at the location. Public toilets, a few shops and refreshment outlets are available in Hathersage village.
Photographic notes
The sun is best placed for eastbound trains until early afternoon, and then for westbound trains until late afternoon. Shade from line side trees may be a problem from autumn until early spring, when the sun is low in the sky, and a brightish, but cloudy day may be preferable during this period.
