Access is by a minor road off the B6521, which links the A6187/A625 (east of Hathersage) with the A623 near Eyam.
There is a small cafe opposite the station, but no other facilities when this is closed.

The surrounding hills can cause problems with shade. The sun is best placed for eastbound trains until early afternoon. With careful selection of exposure conditions, it is possible to obtain good photographs of westbound trains coming out of the tunnel.
