New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
A quite vantage point on a quiet dead end lane (leading to a large private house). You will occasionally bump into other rail-nuts there. The spotmight be busy on steam hauled railtour days.
Railway type and traffic
South West Trains class 450 Desiros, mainly on the Weybridge to Waterloo via Hounslow service. Until recently this line was a stronghold for class 458's and slam door stock. Several steam hauled railtours take this back-door out of London. Keep and eye on UK Steam Info for dates and timings.
There are about half a dozen of so freight workings a day, featuring departmental, Enterprise and Intermodal working.
Environment
A wooded lane featuring private properties that reflect wealth of the area. The general area is semi rural and quite green. Quiet and safe.
Road directions
Trumps Mill Lane is between Virginia Water and Thorpe Green. If travelling from Virginia Water (from station) direction on B389, watch out for a lane on the right hand after 2/3 mile (1km). The lane is marked as a dead end road and has a name board "Trumps Mill Lane". The nearest motorway junction is junction 11. Chertsey and Woking are about 5-10 minutes away.

Photographic notes
Good most times of the day. Winter sun could represent some problems due to large number of trees. All lens combinations work.
The best views are had looking towards Virginia Water (West). Trains are slow due to the slow curve at the station and the grade up towards Trumps Mill Lane bridge and beyond. This would be a good spot for the steam photographer.
It is possible to get a good picture looking East, in sunshine there will be shadows from the trees.
