Road directions
From the M27 junction 3
Take the M271 into Southampton. Go all the way to the bottom of the M271 and turn left at the roundabout. Stay in the left hand lane (watch out for the speed camera - 50 mph limit) which takes you to another roundabout that you need to turn right at. This is signposted Dock Gate 20. Be careful this is a huge roundabout with lots of lanes and exits. The bridge is immediately in front of you down this road. DO NOT drive over it as there is a Police gate the other side preventing unauthorised people entering the docks.
Parking
During the week it's very difficult but not impossible to find parking somewhere around the area. At weekends it's quite easy as the place is deserted. Usually parking on the left as you approach the bridge is available but there is more parking down a side street to the right.
Public transport
Redbridge station is just over half a mile walk away and is served by a reasonable (every hour or so during weekdays) service from Southampton.
Walking from Redbridge station
Go out of the station and down the lane to the end and turn right. Follow this to the main road and turn right again. Follow this along until you get to First Avenue on the right. This is the road that goes over the bridge.
Amenities
During weekdays there is a mobile burger bar on the side street off the road over the bridge. This is recommended for their bacon butties! There is also a McDonald's and a KFC the other side of the main road at the last roundabout you passed on the way in. About 5 mins walk.

Photographic notes
Good views of the stabling point from the bridge as it's literally right next to / underneath you. Some locos will be partly under the bridge and some at the fueling point will be too far to see without binoculars. When the sun is low in the sky it creates some very harsh shadows. The main line is reasonably clear from the bridge but there are a few bushes that tend to get in the way a bit if you want the traditional 3/4 view.
