Difficult area to park, public transport would be better.

Direct train services from Victoria, Waterloo, Watford Junction and much of Southern England. Good local bus services in all directions.
Many food & drink outlets within the station, with a Sainsbury's and other shops just outside.
The best spots are at the London ends of the platforms, with clear views towards Waterloo and Victoria, and not much platform furniture to obstruct views in the other direction.
For the yard you can get good shots through the windows on the footbridge. The platforms are well lit at night, and there is not too much noise (except for the trains!)
Update Dec 13:
If you wish to take photographs to this location, you must identify yourself to the station manager who can usually be found on Platform 9/10.
