Road directions
From the A12 Junction 14:
At the junction (You will see Toys R Us) continue into Ipswich on A1214, through 3 sets of traffic lights plus a pedestrian controlled set, to bottom of the hill. At traffic lights turn right and follow signs to station.
Parking
There is a short term car park outside the station where you can park for 20 minutes and there is also a multi-story car park there as well. The multi-story can get full very quickly, so you may have to park in the town and walk or get a bus to the station.
Public transport
From London Liverpool Street you can take any 'One' Anglia express train to Ipswich as they all stop there. Also you can take a 'One' Great Eastern train to Ipswich from Great Eastern stations. There are also services to Ipswich operated by 'One' Anglia from Peterborough, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Cambridge and Peterborough.
Amenities
There are toilets on the station and a cafe and some shops on the platform. There are also numerous drinks machines and candy machines there.

Photographic notes
The best place to get pictures of the yard is Platform 4 which is dead opposite the yard, there is good light and most locos are visible and photable. You can also go to the end of Platform 3 (Norwich End) and see locos reversing at East Suffolk Junction as the locos sometimes come into the platform reverse and go back into the East Suffolk Junction yard. There are four tracks through the center of the platforms which due to the curve offer great opportunities for London bound trains passing through the station. At the south end of the platforms there are crossing warning lights that go out when a train is approaching. These are useful for advance warning of approaching trains.
Ipswich can be busy and noisy at times especially when the locos are firing up in the yard.
