Road directions
From the west (or north and south via the A19), take the A66 through central Middlesbrough. At the second roundabout take the second exit (it is the second on the left - the A66 continuing on is the third exit), and this road - the B1513 - goes over the railway and joins with the Dockside Road.
Parking
Some people park on the bridge itself, on the verge / pavement (which is just wide enough for a car), but the road actually has double yellow lines. An alternative is to park in the side road on the south side of the railway, near the roundabout.
Public transport
There are some local buses, but none cross the railway line. The local bus operators are Stagecoach (Cleveland Transit) and Arriva (Teesside).
Amenities
Central Middlesbrough is close by. There is an Asda supermarket and some local shops to the east at South Bank - go back onto the A66 heading east, turn left at the next roundabout and then first right.
The line runs roughly east-west, and shots are possible both ways. The suns moves off the nose of eastbound trains and onto the nose of westbound trains just before midday. By about 5 or 6pm the sun has moved too far round. There are no real problems with shadows until the sun starts getting low. It is possible to take videos, but there may be problems with traffic noise - while the road is not especially busy, there are lots of lorries.
