Road directions
The railway station and National Railway Museum are clearly signposted on all routes into the city. The location is just a few minutes' walk away. From outside the station, walk along Station Road in the direction of the Minster (you can't miss it), following the road until you reach Station Avenue, then Museum Street (you should pass under the historic city walls). Along Museum Street, before you cross the River Ouse, there are steps at the end of the city wall that lead down to the river. Head away from the Museum Street bridge and within a couple of minutes you will come to the railway bridge.
Parking
There are car parks for both the railway station and National Railway Museum within a short (few minutes') walking distance.
Public transport
Simply take any local bus service to the railway station. If you are travelling from further afield take the train to York station.
Amenities
The nearest toilets are in the railway station, approx. 5 minutes walk away. As for food and drink, York City centre is only a short journey on foot and has many eateries and pubs.
Accommodation
There are many places to stay within York, though it would be best to book ahead, particularly during the summer months.
With four vantage points, you can easily pick the best location depending on the time of day. If you need to get across to the other side of the river, there is thankfully a footbridge across the Ouse, adjacent to the railway bridge. Unfortunately, a very large tree on the south bank of the Ouse restricts some of the view from the west. The best views from the south are to be had on the grass verge - if you need a step up, there are some benches and picnic tables.
