Road directions
From Birchington-on-sea railway station, turn right, and right again so that you are heading in a westerly direction. You should shortly arrive at the railway bridge that crosses the road. The traffic lights always seem to be 'red' here, so you will have time to glance at the cauliflowers to your left........ When the lights eventually turn green, proceed until you see a Ingoldsby Road on the left. Take this turning, and follow it round to the right. You will see a public footpath sign directly opposite Old Farm Road.
Parking
There is usually ample parking in the street, but please think of the residents and do not block anyones drive!
Public transport
This is only a short walk from the railway station itself, so you may as well walk, and smell those cauliflowers....
Amenities
The village provides much to choose from: 'Seabell' Fish and Chips, 'Tandoori Nite' on station Road has to be visited if you like your curries. One of the best in the country. The Acorn, situated in Park Lane (near the square) is now under new ownership (2007) and serves baguettes etc during the day, and offers genuine Thai meals most evenings. Closer to the location is a general shop, and the Beehive Cafe which are located in Minnis road itself. There is also a large Co-op store, Somerfield, numerous other shops, tea rooms, and several pubs.
Accommodation
The Kings Head and Sea view Hotel offer accommodation.
The line runs pretty much east-west, so does not pose too many problems with lighting, and shots can be had at all times of the day. Trains travelling east are best photographed up to about lunchtime, then as the sun moves round, the location becomes better for photographing westbound trains.
