Road directions
From Manston, take the B2050 west. After passing the airport to your left, take the B2190 which will lead you towards Minster. As you near Minster, you come to a roundabout. Here, you need to take a right down the A299. You will soon reach another roundabout, turn left here and you will be in Monkton.
There are several ways to get to the locations: Just off Monkton street, there is a track leading to the Recreation ground. From here, there is a track which leads to the railway. You can use this track if you have gained the farmers permission to do so. This will lead you to the level crossing only. If you turn into 'The Drove' to the East of the village, you will come across 2 points to pick up the public footpath, one leading to the level crossing, the other a pleasant walk to the foot crossing. The other option you have is to continue Eastwards on the A253, (You will have to go back to the roundabout to do this, as Monkton Street is closed off by a locked gate) Once on the A253, you need to loom for a left hand turn next to a small group of cottages. This road leads to the Stourmouths and Preston. Take this road which should soon cross the railway. The road will then bear right (Notice the layby on the right ) and then left again. Turn left just here and park your vehicle. (Or you may prefer to park in the layby.) You should see where the footpath leads to the line
Parking
The best place to park is by the house down 'The Drove', or in the layby, depending on which route you take.
Amenities
There is a pub in the village, and also a tea-room just opposite the layby as mentioned above.
On sunny days, this location is best for East-bound trains up until about lunchtime. Trains travelling in the opposite direction are best photographed from early afternoon. This location would be suited to those wishing to take video, as it is generally very quiet here.
