Road directions
The main route into New Mills is the A6015 (Church Road), which leaves the A6 at New Mills Newtown (close to Newtown station), and continues through to Hayfield. Close to the town centre, turn north onto the B6101 (Union Road). Turn left as soon as you pass the small bus station, then branch left down Station Road. However, it is advised that you find a vacant parking space in the town centre, then walk to the station.
Parking
There is no car parking at the station, it is best to park in the town center and walk in.
Public transport
By rail to the station by local services from Manchester Piccadilly or Sheffield. Alternatively, walk (about 15 minutes) from New Mills Newtown station - see road directions (above).
Amenities
There are shops and refreshment facilities available in the town centre.
Shade from trees surrounding the station creates problems for photography for much of the day. The tunnel can be viewed from the over bridge at the south end of the station, but untrimmed vegetation can hinder photography. Slightly better photographic possibilities exist at two over bridges on the south side of the tunnel.
There are also some nearby locations in New Mills Town Centre, each about 5 minutes walk from Central station: Fig 5 and 6 - Hyde Bank Road over bridge: Access off the A6015, Church Road a short distance from the junction with the B6101, Union Road. This bridge overlooks the east end of New Mills Tunnel. The light is best for trains leaving the tunnel on summer afternoons.
Fig 7 and 8 - Church Road (A6015) over bridge. A service duct partially obstructs the view from the north side of the road. Note - the road can be very busy, take care when crossing.
