New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Castlethorpe is a small village between Milton Keynes and Northampton. This location is a road bridge which crosses over the busy West Coast Main Line.
Railway type and traffic
Plenty of Virgin trains, and class 321 and 350 units operating local services.
There is also much freight, mainly by DB Schenker, GBRF, and Freightliner.
Environment
The location is a small bridge between open fields.
Road directions
From the M1, Junction 15:
Take the A508 to Roade. From here, take the local road to Hartwell. Once you reach Hartwell, bear right, and follow the main road to Hanslope. At the centre of Hanslope, you will come across a mini roundabout at which you turn right down Castlethorpe Road. Follow this road until you pass a horse training ground on your right. Just further ahead the road bends sharply to the left and you should notice the public footpath sign. Park safely, and follow the footpath which will lead you to the bridge that crosses the railway lines.

Photographic notes
This location is best for Southbound workings. However, once you cross the bridge, you can go along the edge of the field, and if you then turn back on yourself, a 'reasonable' northbound shot then presents itself.
